Unit 4- Multiple Images.

Experimentation with layering photos of my brother, dad and Grandad to show changes in movement throughout the generations.
Need to find ways of fading out the edges of the photos as they cross over the layers.

Unit 3 (Relationship between Literature and Art)- Final Piece.

After looking over my body of work I came to realise that my studies had began to go down two separate paths- observational studies and seascape studies. When it came to developing final piece ideas I had to find a way of bringing all my work back together. I began to experiment with layering images, for example using my strips of cut offs from my screenprint I created a surface which was abstractly representative of a seascape. I then went on to loosely paint another seascape on top. Before doing this I wrote lines from certain chosen poems on to the surface in liquid latex to be scraped off later on. I then layered observational studies on top of this, to see if this would be a good direction to go in for my final piece.
Once I had produced these studies I decided to look more at the idea of using strips to create a new image. I enlarged and photocopied some of my photographs, seascape studies and observational studies. I then began to cut them into different sized strips and arrange them to create various compositions. After looking at these I decided I wanted to keep connotations of seascape still apparent in the piece, I managed this by creating a skyline throughout the piece with the various images. I feel that this was much more effective as it created a focal point in the piece. To translate this idea into a final piece I cut large pieces of ply wood into various sized strips, and painted the images on the original strips onto the panels, then arranged them in a similar way to the photocopied studies.
Overall I am pleased with the outcome of this project.

Unit 3 (Relationship between Literature and Art)- Outcomes- Screenprint

When introducing screen printing into my body of work I wanted to continue to focus on the idea of texture in the work. To do this I photocopied pieces of my work and began to cut out sections and rearrange them to create a new image. To incorporate text into this I photocopied text from an earlier piece of work onto acetate then embedded it into my design. In order to portray the atmosphere of the landscape, I produced very gesturally energetic surfaces to print on, using a sea-scape appropriate pallet of colour. However, when it came to printing, I found that some of my surfaces were too dark, so I reworked them, bringing in lighter colours.

Unit 1(structure)- Final Piece

To conclude Unit 1 I wanted to exaggerate the difference between modern and gothic architecture, and show the idea of 'new' growing out of the 'old'. I did this by creating rips and holes in the piece through which you could see the modern, digital like (Fiona Rae and Franz Ackerman inspired) buildings. For the 'old' side, I looked very closely at the work of Koshlyakov, and experimented with many different media.
This piece was selected to be exhibited at Trafford Schools Open Gallery, and then I went on to win runner up for the Visitors Choice Award.

Unit 3 (Relationship Between Literature and Art)- Development of Ideas. Card Print.

This is my progression of card print experimentation. Similar to the previous Unit, I produced a positive and negative template. I created my design from a combination of my photos and painted studies. I also used different surface texture to print onto, for example, putting a thick coat of emulsion onto the paper, and then rolling crumpled up foil onto it (top right). For the bottom two studies I ripped up and combined different prints. I feel the bottom left study is a stronger outcome due to the contrast.

Unit 3 (Relationship Between Literature and Art)- Development of Ideas.

Here I continued to develop the style of the crab shell. I feel that this one is the most successful. I also began to incorporate the poetry again with appropriate quotes relating to the subject matter.

Unit 3 (Relationship Between Literature and Art)- Development of Ideas.

For this observational study I continued to try out different combinations of media. For example, for the first layer I created the rough shape and colour of this crab shell with coloured inks, then sprinkled sea salt over the surface to create the textured effect. I then added detail with oil pastel. I have chosen to continue with this style in this Unit.
